Botulism Scare With Hot Dog Chili Sauce

Comments Off

Some brands of canned hot dog chili sauce have been linked to botulism poisoning. Botulism can cause weakness of the muscles in the body and paralysis of breathing muscles. Four cases of botulism poisoning have been linked to the hot dog chili sauce, which is sold under several brand names, including Castleberry Hot Dog Chili Sauce, Austex Hot Dog Sauce and Kroger Hot Dog Sauce. The sauce suspected in the current botulism scare was manufactured at the Castleberry Food Company in Augusta, Georgia. Consumers are warned not to eat these brands of sauce, and anyone who has this sauce should throw it away. The FDA is involved in this recall.
