The Clarence Darrow Award was presented to Stephen A. Sheller, P.C. at “An Evening with Thurgood Marshall,” a benefit for the Temple University Beasley School of Law’s Sheller Center for Social Justice, in Philadelphia, on March 3. The award is nationally regarded as one of the most prestigious and highly coveted in the field of trial law.

Mike Papantonio, Florida lawyer and radio talk show host of Mass Torts Made Perfect, sponsor of the day’s plaintiff’s tort bar meeting, presented the award. Montae Russell portrayed Thurgood Marshall in the one-man theatrical performance.

The Clarence Darrow Award, named for famed attorney Clarence Darrow, recognizes excellence in the legal profession and is awarded to attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their law practice. One of history’s most well-known civil rights and trial lawyers of the 20th century, Thurgood Marshall argued Brown v. Board of Education which ended racial segregation in public schools prior to being appointed the first African American justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
