Lawsuits against medical device manufacturer Stryker for injuries related to fretting and corrosion of the modular stem of its Rejuvenate and the ABG II hip implants are being consolidated in Bergen County New Jersey.

The cases will be managed under Superior Court Judge Brian R. Martinotti. This is the second group of hip cases assigned to Judge Martinotti. Since 2011, he has managed all New Jersey state cases involving the DePuy ASR hip.

The Plaintiffs in the Stryker cases are alleging that the artificial hips — which are made from a variety of materials including metals, ceramics, and polyethylene — corrode and release toxic levels of metal ions into patients' bodies. Injuries include metallosis, death of body tissues and bone cells. Patients may notice swelling and pain in the affected areas.

There were 10 New Jersey cases filed when Plaintiffs petitioned to centralize the cases.
