Parents of newborns beware: A product called SimplyThick should not be given to premature newborns because it has caused inflammation and two known deaths in babies, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
SimplyThick is an agent used to thicken liquids for patients who have dysphasia (difficulty swallowing).
The FDA reports that it is aware of 15 incidents, including two deaths, in which premature infants were given SimplyThick along with breast milk or formula.
